"Welcome to the final posting of The Football Club 2007-- Eleventh Year Michelin Man Edition!  The regular season has now come to a finish.  And with it, the Club Championship Points Standings race for No. 1.  Of course, this year it wasn't much of a race, more like twenty-one drivers following the lead car the whole time.  We are happy to announce that Unknown Artist has won the 2007 Club Championship, the second of his storied career (his first title was in the management lock-out shortened season of 2001).  Unknown Artist's play this season very much mirrored that of his favorite team, the New England Patriots.  Unknown Artist ran the table from beginning to end, posting an unprecedented (and likely never to be matched) 17 weeks at #1.  That feat is nearly impossible, particularly in a year such as this one, when we have such fierce competition because of having so many good players in the club.  To stay in First Place from start to finish, you have to begin the season by winning the Week 1 MVP Award.  Unknown Artist did that, and he did one better, by also winning the Week 2 MVP Award.  There just proved to be no way for any other club members to overcome the great start that carried Unknown Artist to his historic record-breaking achievement at the top of the club.  Many of us were frustrated along the way, but now that it is all over, it is time to sit back and admire what Unknown Artist was able to accomplish.  It also gives us a little bit of extra incentive to play well from the start next season, during the Twelfth Year Hall of Fame Edition.  Stealing a place in the Final Top Five at the end of the season, was Hall of Fame club member Double-Double, the club champion of two years ago.  Double-Double did this by sharing the Week 17 MVP Award with Kipossible, as both players scored 32 Points.  Also, in an extremely close race between Nighthawk, Bill Hilly & Slick Chick, the club is happy to announce that Slick Chick has won the 2007 Rookie of the Year Award.  To learn the reasons why, please continue reading down below in my year end player-by-player performance review.  In the year 1999, I first posted such a performance review for the Top 25 players in the club.  I have not done it since then, but with the retirement of Rush, I feel it is necessary to bring it back, in order to bring closure to the 2007 season.

Memories of the 2007 season for the Top 22 players:

2007 Club Champion Unknown Artist had one the most amazing seasons ever, as he won the club title for the second time in his career.  With 3 MVP Awards, 3 MVP Award Runner-Ups & 17 Weeks at #1, he has a lot to be proud of.  He also made the Conference Final of the Super Bowl Tournament, after winning Division Two with a record of 8-2 and being the top seed in Conference One.  And he made the Pro Bowl Final for the third time in his career (with the previous two being victories in 2002 & 2005).  The Club Champion Runner-Up was Sweet Misery, who earned the honor by finishing 21 Points behind the champ.  Sweet Misery stayed in the Top Five for the second half of the season, while he also took home the Week 11 MVP Award.  Hoosier Daddy finished in Third Place, his highest finish since the 2000 season, when he also finished in third.  He also snagged two MVP Awards-- in Weeks 10 & 16.  The second of those MVP Awards was instrumental in leading Daddy & His Boys to the 2007 Pro Bowl title, which is Hoosier's third Pro Bowl title.  Hoosier Daddy also won Division One in Head to Head Weekly, posting a record of 6 wins and 4 losses.  Boris Badenov finished in the Top Five yet again, for the fourth time in his career.  Boris has to be pleased with his two back-to-back MVP Awards-- in Weeks 13 & 14, and also that he was able to reach the Super Bowl Conference Final for the third time in his career.  One of the best moments that Boris had was in Week 14, because he had the highest score of the year with 38 Points.  Rounding out the Top Five because of a strong finish in Week 17 was former champ Double-Double.  Double-Double finished 25 Points behind Boris, but even so, it is a great accomplishment to end the season in the Top Five.  Double-Double helped Wild Animals reach another Pro Bowl final, before seeing them be defeated in a close match.

Just missing the Top Five by 4 Points was one of the greatest players in club history-- Eastside Brewer.  By most perspectives, Eastside Brewer had an outstanding season.  He started the season as Stone Cold Lach and played very well in Head to Head Weekly.  In fact, he won the Division Three title with a record 6-3-1 and claimed the No. 2 seed in Conference Two.  After winning back-to-back Super Bowl titles in the previous two years, Eastside Brewer was stunned when The Cat eliminated him in his first match.  But the glory of the past two years has not yet faded away, so at any time Eastside Brewer can pay a quick visit to the Hall of Fame and see his name in more places than anybody else.  Finishing in 7th Place was Captain Insano, the arch-rival of Bill Hilly.  The good captain snagged a peak of No. 2 for the season, and hung around inside the Top Five for most of the year.  Essentially, he had a strong second season, coming off his Rookie of the Year Award win last season.  And who can forget the much-heralded return of Drummer Boy to the club.  In Drummer Boy's case, not only was he able to live up to the hype surrounding his return, but he was able to surpass most club insiders' expectations.  Drummer Boy had an amazing run all the way to the Super Bowl final.  He grabbed two MVP Awards along the way-- in Weeks 8 & 12.  Of course, Drummer Boy's biggest moment came when he reunited with Hoosier Daddy on Daddy & His Boys, and they won the Pro Bowl championship.  Shelby's Dad finished in 9th Place, which is very solid and respectable.  His great stats were reflective of last season-- he scored 1 MVP Award and led the Sunday Night 6 Point games category with 11 picked correctly.  We expect to see great things from Shelby's Dad in the upcoming season.  In fact, we would not be surprised if he ended up winning one of the three major titles-- the Club Championship, the Super Bowl title, or the Pro Bowl team title.  Rounding out the Top Ten was Kipossible.  Of all players in the Top Ten, I am most impressed with the improvement that Kip has displayed.  He virtually owned No. 2 for a good part of the year.  He also won the Division Four title with a record of 7 wins and 3 losses, thereby claiming the No. 1 seed in Conference Two.  After a brief freefall, Kip rebounded to claim a spot in the Top Ten by winning his second career MVP Award in Week 17.  He also led the league in Games of the Week with 21 picked correctly (along with Captain Insano).

Two year club veteran The Rinator ended up in 11th Place, which is right in the middle of the pack.  The Rinator stepped up with some great plays this season-- he had the best overall ratio of picking Triple Jeopardy games correctly with 7 out of 10, or 70%.  Also, The Rinator peaked at No. 3, won the Player of the Month Award during September, and claimed two MVP Award Runner-Ups.  Bob the Builder and The Cat finished in a tie for 12th Place.  Bob the Builder had some ups and downs during the season.  But one of the biggest moments for him came when Mystery Men set the all-time scoring record for a single week, as they scored 110 Points in the First Round of the Pro Bowl Tournament.  Bob the Builder's new catch-phrase that he uses everytime he says goodbye is: "We can fix it."  Meanwhile, former Club Champion, Super Bowl Champion, and Pro Bowl Champion The Cat had a tremendous run in both the Super Bowl and Pro Bowl tournaments, as he usually does.  The Cat knocked off two opponents-- Slick Chick and Eastside Brewer, in route to an appearance in the Divisional Round of the tournament.  Also, The Cat stepped up and posted an MVP Award Runner-Up to help his team in the Pro Bowl final, as they almost won.  Finishing the season strong (with the exception of Week 17), The Cat won the December Player of the Month Award.  New rookie player Nighthawk has been a tremendous addition to the club.  Talk about a great season-- Nighthawk took home the Week 3 MVP Award and also led his team The Sleepwalkers to the Final Four of the Pro Bowl Tournament, where they were eliminated by Wild Animals, which is nothing to be ashamed of.  Finishing in 15th Place overall is Captain Jack Sparrow, who had the most thrilling run through the Super Bowl Tournament that I have ever seen.  Captain Jack Sparrow beat five very tough opponents and was crowned the champion.  Now, he is set to defend his current status as back-to-back Playoff Picks Champion, as he won the contest in both 2005 & 2006.

Next up in the standings is Soy Junkies.  Soy Junkies had his struggles this season, but he had his moment in the sun.  This happened when he won the Week 15 MVP Award, the first time he has won an MVP in the last decade.  He followed this up by being the Week 17 MVP Award Runner-Up, so great things may well be in store for him next year.  Club veteran and 2005 Points Champion Runner-Up Mike Z had a tremendous year, joining up with his friends on the team Daddy & His Boys.  Mike Z must really be celebrating the fact that he has now won a Football Club major title, as Daddy & His Boys won the team championship.  Another impact player was the rookie Bill Hilly, who signed up one week after the season started.  Despite being at an obvious competitive disadvantage, Bill Hilly started off quick by being the Week 4 MVP.  Then, he attained a Peak Position of No. 3, something very few players can do during the season.  2007 Rookie of the Year Award winner Slick Chick really took the club by storm.  During the first half of the season, she made continuously brilliant picks.  She claimed the Week 6 MVP Award, which propelled her into Second Place and the Top Five for quite a few weeks.  Slick Chick may have had a late season slump, but all of us have been through them and it takes nothing away from her great season.  In 20th Place was Robby Bobby Ro Ro, a five year veteran who is a true friend to everybody in the club.  Robby Bobby Ro Ro spent the entire football season in New Orleans helping the brothers and sisters.  Thus, it is easy to see why his picks did not have the same greatness as they did in previous years.  In 21st Place was The Beav, who had a great week in Week 10, when he was the MVP Award Runner-Up.  Rookie player gridironguru rounded out the club as the bottom-feeder.  We are not exactly sure why he quit turning in his picks several weeks before the season ended, as he was playing really well.  The Rules Committee has announced that gridironguru has been suspended for the 2008 season as a result, because he bailed on his team Lach Ness Monsters right as the Pro Bowl Tournament started.  So there you have it, a full breakdown of every player.  Thank you for participating everybody!"--Sweet Misery / Tuna the Newlywed
