Year-End Recap
and Player Memories:
"Welcome to Wild Card weekend of The Football Club 2010-- Fourteenth Year Legends Edition! This is my year end review column, in which I take a look back at all players and give my thoughts on their accomplishments and memories of the 2010 season. We start with some news about The Hall of Fame, which has been fully updated. In Section 1, we have added all of the 2010 season Major Championship winners and individual awards. Be sure and check it out to find out which club members were given particular awards this season. In Section 2, we have updated several things as well, including the All-Time Club Records for the Most MVP Awards in a Season (Slick Chick with 5 MVPs), Iron Man Streak for Top Five Finishes (Speak Now Tuna for 5 consecutive years), and Best Head to Head Regular Season record (Hoosier Daddy going 9-1 for the 2nd time). The Career Points Leaders have also been updated, factoring in this season's total. The Rickster continues to be the Career Points Leader with 3,711 Points. The only other two members of the 3,000 Points club are Speak Now Tuna (3,496 Points) and Double-Double (3,411 Points). If The Rickster plays again next season, he will surely become the first member of the 4,000 Points club. There are now 8 members of the 2,000 Points club. The Cat is in 4th Place all-time with 2,818 Points and Hoosier Daddy is in 5th Place all-time with 2,704 Points. Just behind them is Dark Knight (6th Place- 2,627 Points), One-Legged News Vendor (7th Place- 2,502 Points) and Unknown Artist (8th Place- 2,485 Points). As a side note, in a conversation with Unknown Artist this past week he proclaimed that he is still the greatest champion that the club has ever seen. He said that nobody will ever be able to match his start to finish 17 Weeks at #1 Club Championship in 2007. He mentioned that his feat is so noteworthy because in order to do it you need to win the MVP in Week 1 and have a great week in Week 2, otherwise it is impossible to run the table like he did. However, he did take time out to say he admires The Rickster's legendary Perfect Week in 2004 and Slick Chick's 5 MVP Awards in One Season in 2010, two things he never was able to accomplish. He had no comment about a potential future return to the club. As far as the Veteran Inductees for 2011, we are happy to announce the three former club members who have been chosen. They are Shane Attell (Shlipe), George Balat (Geo Storm), and Joe Robinson (Bald Eagle). Be sure and visit Section 2 of the Hall of Fame to see their logos and reasons why they were inducted this season. And if you see one of them, let them know about their induction.
The 2010 Club Champion is Slick Chick (Marsha Ziff), who held off the determined charge of the rest of the Top Five in order to finish in 1st Place. The fact that the five club members in the Top Five are only separated by a mere 15 Points is unprecedented and shows how close this season really was. Slick Chick had a season for the ages, as she set a new Hall of Fame record with 5 MVP Awards in One Season. In the previous 13 years of the club, only 3 players had ever won 4 MVP Awards in a single season. So this was a major achievement. And, of course, Slick Chick also made history by becoming the first female player to win the club title. The ratio of guys to girls in the club this season was 11 to 1, which is about normal. The previous best finishes by girl players were Annie Linden (Annie-mole- 2nd Place in 2000) and Sugar n Spice (Haley Collins- 3rd Place in 2004). Slick Chick also dominated other facets of the club, as she made the Conference Round of the Super Bowl Tournament and the Pro Bowl Final with Transformers. Club Champion Runner-Up Speak Now Tuna (Steve Hall Jr.) has to be very pleased with his season. He had a stand-out year by once again making the Super Bowl Final (previous SB Final appearance in 2005) and finishing as Club Champion Runner-Up (previous 2nd Place finish in 2007). In both cases, a single game cost him the championship trophies (NYJ-Chi for the SB title and Min-Det for the Club title). But the most important thing for Speak Now Tuna was to extend his Hall of Fame record Iron Man Streak for Top Five Finishes to 5 consecutive years, and he was able to do that. Finishing in 3rd Place this season was The Rickster (Rick Lachmiller), which matches his 2009 finish. As the only player in club history to be a three-time Club Champion (2001, 2004 & 2006), just finishing in the Top Five is probably nothing significant to The Rickster. But to a majority of players, it is a huge accomplishment. The Rickster did manage to hold the top spot for one week this season, as he logged 1 Week at #1. But the Rickster's highlight this season was winning the 2010 Super Bowl Championship, which was his 3rd Super Bowl Championship and 8th Major Championship overall. In 4th Place at the end of the season we have Hoosier Daddy (Billy Dougan). Finishing in 4th Place after winning his first Club Championship last season is an excellent way to follow-up that title and maintain excellence. And even though he finished in 4th Place, Hoosier Daddy still posted 3 Weeks at #1 during the season. Hoosier Daddy's best moment of the season came when he led his Pro Bowl team Daddy & His Boys to their 3rd team Championship. Let's put it this way-- this was the 12th Pro Bowl competition and Hoosier Daddy has been on the winning team 4 times, which is 1/3 of all Pro Bowl Tournaments. He clearly knows how to work well with other players and his track record proves it. Hoosier Daddy is also now in 2nd Place all time with 5 Major Championships overall. An interesting side note is that Hoosier Daddy (and The Rickster, too) has now won championships in three different decades-- the 1990s (Pro Bowl), the 2000s (Club and 2 Pro Bowl) and the 2010s (Pro Bowl). Rounding out the Top Five this season is Drummer Boy (Joe Diorio). Drummer Boy followed up his first ever Playoff Picks Championship from last season by carrying his momentum over into this year's regular season. He came on especially strong at the end and was racking up huge numbers of Points. Had there been two extra weeks of football (as there may well be starting in 2012), I could have seen him taking control and winning the title. Drummer Boy's highlight was also winning the Pro Bowl Championship on Daddy & His Boys. He is a great team player. And Drummer Boy's tremendous finish is a reminder to all club members to never give up down the stretch.
Finishing just outside of the Top Five this season was The Beav (Scott Kennedy). The Beav has the Highest Score of the Year this season when he scored 38 Points in Week 15. He also reached another Pro Bowl Final with his team Transformers. Transformers were also only one game away from winning the Pro Bowl Championship (NO-Atl game was decisive). The 2010 Comeback Player of the Year was C Master V (Chad Victor). C Master V had been away from the club since 2005, but he returned and quickly served notice that he was going to be a serious contender. He finished in 7th Place, but had 1 MVP Award and 1 Week at #1. Just behind him in the Final Standings was club legend Dark Knight (Rich Contreras), who peaked in the Top Five. Dark Knight's biggest success this season was reaching the Conference Round of the Super Bowl Tournament, which means he was 1 of the final 4 participants and came close to winning the title for the second time in his career. The 9th Place finisher was oddly named One-Legged News Vendor (Anthony Gordon). Many players may not have understood his name, so I will leak the secret to you right here. The One-Legged News Vendor is a character in the Sherlock Homes book world, and the logo which he used this season was a scan directly taken from the rare original book. One-Legged News Vendor was very happy to finish in the Top Ten, but even happier to learn that he had been named the recipient of the 2010 Sportsmanship Award for his great courtesy and consideration to fellow club members. Rounding out the Top Ten, we had last season's Club Champion Runner-Up MJD Hogg (Matt Dougan). As he was quite busy with his start-up company MJD's Butter Creations, he did not have much time for football this season. Still, he played well enough to help Daddy & His Boys win their third Pro Bowl Championship.
Only 1 Point outside of the Top Ten was returning club legend The Roustabout (Charlie Galletta), who will probably be playing next season as Tron. At the time of this writing, he just went to see Tron: Legacy for his 7th time. It was great to have The Roustabout back and I know he was proud to finish up the season by winning the Week 17 MVP Award. In 12th Place we had Caveman (Steven Calles), who is the son of Rad Dad. Caveman made a huge impact this season as a rookie player, as he reached a Peak Position of No. 2 and spent quite a few weeks in the Top Five. Because of this, Caveman was named the 2010 Rookie of the Year Award Winner. Maybe he will have the same future as 2007 Rookie of the Year Award Winner Slick Chick, and win the Club title in a few short seasons. One position behind him, in 13th Place, was our other rookie player this season-- Random Man (Darby from Oregon). Random Man finished with a peak of No. 3 and 1 MVP Award, an excellent showing for a first year player. Because of this, he almost won the Rookie of the Year Award, but was the runner-up since he finished one place lower than Caveman. In 14th Place was Double-Double (Dave Pariani), who actually is probably disappointed with his season. Double-Double is 1 of only 4 players in club history who has won all three Major Championships (Club Champion in 2005, Super Bowl Champion in 2008, and Pro Bowl Champion in both 1998 & 2005). Just behind him, in 15th Place, was his Wild Animals teammate The Cat (Gary Kennedy). When he turned in his Week 17 picks, The Cat predicted that "unfortunately, this marks the last football club year" in view of the imminent end of this system. We hope that The Cat is right, and the club will only continue in our memories, at least for a while.
Rounding out the rest of the club, 16th Place finisher Bob Loblaw (Brandon Kennedy) helped lead Transformers to the Pro Bowl Final, 17th Place finisher Roadrunner (Steve Hall Sr.) reached a solid Peak Position of #4, 18th Place finisher The Bird Man (Justin Naber) shocked the world when he knocked #1 seed Hoosier Daddy out of the Super Bowl Tournament, 19th Place finisher T-Bone (Joe Turfa) helped guide Wild Animals into the Final Four of the Pro Bowl Tournament, 20th Place finisher Rad Dad (Mike Calles) won 1 MVP Award, 21st Place finisher Record Dust (Ryan Dias) enjoyed 6 Weeks at #1 before suffering the most monumental collapse in club history, and 22nd Place finisher Amandah Montana (Amanda Boyd) led her team Hannah & Her Boys onto the scene as they made an impact and posted some great team wins.
In closing, as this is my final Main Page Column of the year (my commentary
during the Playoff Picks will be included directly in the weekly e-mails),
I would like to announce the name of the next season in the club.
The 2011 season, should it be played, will be entitled The Football Club
2011-- Fifteenth Year Trophy Edition. It will be a special anniversary
season with trophies being awarded to the winners of the Club Championship,
members of the Pro Bowl team Championship, and Super Bowl Championship.
As many of you know, official trophies were given out one previous time
in the club. At that time, trophies were also given out for previous
club titles for all who wanted to have them. The same will be true
in this upcoming season. At the end of the year, trophies will be
given to all the 2011 winners AND all previous winners by request.
So nobody who has won in the past will be left out. See you then."--
