Week 1 MVP Award Winners –
Drummer Boy & Roadrunner (34 Points)

The Week 1 results are in and The Football Club is officially back underway.  And in no surprise to anyone, two of the best players of the 2020s decade are debuting in 1st Place with a share of the Week 1 MVP Award.  First, we have Drummer Boy, who has sent a message loud and clear to the rest of the club that his dominance is going to continue right on into this season.  Anyone who had their hopes up that he wouldn’t be an immediate threat is going to head back to the locker room in disappointment.  Second, we have Roadrunner, who has now reached a Peak Position of #1 in three out of the past four seasons.  In fact, he has now logged 7 weeks at #1 over the past four seasons.  After struggling last season and ending in 17th Place, Roadrunner is truly off to a fast start heading into the first turn.  The Week 1 MVP Award Runner-Up was none other than My Wife Loves Jimmy G, who has also shown himself to be a  steady, consistent threat down the stretch every season.  However, he noted at a press conference before Week 1 that his biggest obstacle to success has been a slow start each season.  Clearly, he got some good coaching because that issue has been overcome.  As we get started with the new season, the debut Top Five consists of tied for #1 Drummer Boy & Roadrunner, #3 My Wife Loves Jimmy G (2 Points back), #4 Captain Insano (3 Points back), and #5 MJD Hogg (5 Points back).  Defending 2024 Club Champion Stinkerbell, with her trophy sitting on the mantle above the fireplace, debuted in 10th Place in the middle of the pack.  The good news for those of us who struggled last week (many with an assist from Baltimore thanks to their collapse) is that the season has just begun.  So let’s play on and have a better Week 2.

Welcome to The Football Club 2025: 24th Year Fun Edition.  The club is now once yet open and we would like to welcome every player back who will be participating this season.  This season is being called the Fun Edition because we are all here to have fun and enjoy some football and good fellowship (plus I couldn’t think of anything else).  Over the past 23 seasons of play, we have had 17 different Club Champions.  This year, I did not end up sending out a Roll Call email due to being busy, so I can’t tell you how many players will end up participating.  I guess we will find out by this weekend.  But no matter if it is 10 players or it is 20+ players, I’m sure that all who participate will have a fun time.  As a recap, last season our Top Five finishers were: #1 Club Champion Stinkerbell (449 Points), #2 Runner-Up Drummer Boy (438 Points), tied for #3 Double-Double & Bob Swerski (436 Points), and #5 My Wife Loves Jimmy G (416 Points).  I’ll see you back here in this column at the end of Week 1, when we see who is able to successfully handle the incredibly hard Week 1 picks sheet.
