The Football Club 2024 Now Open

Welcome to The Football Club 2024: 23rd Year Classic Edition.  The club is now once again open and we would like to welcome back everyone who will be participating this season.  This season is being called the Classic Edition because we are continuing to stick with our classic format and everything will be the same as always.  Throughout the past 22 seasons of play, we have had 16 different Club Champions.  This year, I did not end up sending out a Roll Call e-mail due to a busy schedule, so I can’t tell you how many players will be participating.  I guess we will find out at the end of Week 1.  But whether it is 10 players or it is 20+ players, I’m sure that all who participate will have a great time.  As a recap, last season our Top Five finishers were: #1 Club Champion Drummer Boy (394 Points), #2 Runner-Up Young Tuna (391 Points), #3 Double-Double (386 Points), #4 Captain Jack Sparrow (382 Points), and #5 Rad Dad (380 Points).  In addition, the winner of the Super Bowl Picks was Mr. T (50 Points) and the Runner-Up was Young Tuna (40 Points).

A few club members had some interesting updates during the off-season.  The biggest news was the birth of The Sad Salmon & Viking Blood‘s daughter Rachel Anna just a few days ago.  We don’t know if either of them will be able to play this season, but regardless we want to congratulate them on this happy event!  Rachel is adorable and is already best friends with Vanilla (the family dog).  I also had a chance to meet Viking Blood’s mom and little sister during a family trip to Iceland last month, which was neat.  In other news, Bob Swerski & Stinkerbell were spotted at the dedication of our new Kingdom Hall in Sonoma over the summer.  So it was good to see them and have them present at that very special meeting which was attended by at least 7 current club members.  Also, as you will see below in our 2024 club promotional photo, Double-Double visited California (and Hawaii) recently and stopped by to visit with myself and Young Tuna.  Double-Double & Mrs. Double had a great trip.  Young Tuna can be seen holding his 2nd Place Runner-Up trophy.  I would have asked Drummer Boy for a picture, but he is camera shy and I didn’t want another picture of a trophy sitting on top of his drum set.  Bro. MJD Hogg was spotted out and about as he gave the Public Talk in the Glen Ellen congregation last Sunday, and of course he did an excellent job.  Mr. T wanted me to remind everyone that he indeed did win the Super Bowl Picks contest last season.  And as he mentioned, those who picked the 49ers to win (such as Captain Insano) didn’t fare so well in that competition.  So those are a few updates and we look forward to hearing from the rest of you club members once the season gets started and you fill us in on any new developments.

The Club’s Super Bowl Picks

Here are the club’s picks for the Super Bowl Playoff Picks contest.  Mr. T wins the Super Bowl Playoff Picks contest and MVP with 50 Points, while Young Tuna is the Runner-Up with 40 Points.  I’ll work on a final season recap during this coming week.

Congrats to our three MVP Award winners for Week 17.  Captain Insano, Double-Double & The Rickster all scored 32 Points last week to share the Week 17 MVP Award.  And we had a two-way tie for the Week 17 MVP Award Runner-Up between Captain Jack Sparrow & Drummer Boy, who both scored 30 Points.  Congrats also to My Wife Loves Jimmy G, who won the Super Bowl Tournament by defeating Fearless Tuna 27-22.  And finally, congrats to Wild Animals, who won the Pro Bowl Tournament by defeating Gridiron Guardians 91-80.  This week will decide who is the 2023 Club Champion.  Anyone who is currently in the Top Seven has a realistic shot at winning.  Much more will be written about the Club Championship, Club Champion Runner-Up, Top Five finishers, Super Bowl Champion, and Pro Bowl Team Champions at the end of the season once I return from our vacation.
