Week 6 MVP Award Winners –
Badwater Nessie & MJD Hogg (27 Points)
Badwater Nessie and MJD Hogg both have had a fairly rough start to their season over the first five weeks. Badwater Nessie had failed to surface with great picks, staying down in the dark, cold depths of the standings as a bottom dweller. MJD Hogg similarly had remained locked up toward the bottom of the standings, failing to produce great picks which would allow him to be released back into gen pop (or the general population of players in the middle of the standings). Things changed dramatically for both players last week as they each produced 27 Points to become co-winners of the Week 6 MVP Award. Badwater Nessie is now swimming upwards while pushing smaller fish out of the way and MJD Hogg has exchanged the orange jumpsuit for his stylish white clothing and trademark hat. Badwater Nessie scored his 27 Points by getting both Games of the Week correct (1 of 2 players to do so) and by correctly picking Detroit with TJ (1 of 9 players to do so). MJD Hogg was the other player to get both Games of the Week correct, but he caught a tough break when he missed Jax with TJ and lost -2 Points. He made up for it by correctly picking SF on Sunday night (1 of 3 players to do so). It is good to see both of these strong contenders back making great picks once again and let’s hope they can keep it up and shake up the standings a little bit. The Week 6 MVP Award Runner-Up was Slick Chick with 25 Points. Slick Chick continues to serve notice that she is a serious contender who should not be taken lightly. Her strong showing last week put her right back into the Top Five. The Top Five currently consists of #1 Mr. T:SDFW, tied for #2 Halibut J-Bird & Nighthawk (1 Point back), and tied for #4 Double-Double & Slick Chick (4 Points back). If anyone outside of the Top Five feels like they are out of contention already, think again. Last year, during this same week, I was currently in 17th Place, only 2 Points ahead of the player in Last Place. I was sitting 27 Points behind the 1st Place player and the season seemed lost. But I did not give up and eventually my picks started falling into place and being right. This week, I noticed I am currently 20 Points behind the 1st Place player. The point is, stay positive, everyone. You can flop during the first half the season and still end up being a fantastic player during the second half.
This is a short column for me as I am about to head out backpacking for the weekend. So next week I will resume discussions of Head to Head Weekly and Pro Bowl Team Weekly. And I am actually going to turn in my picks right now below for Week 7. Please only check out my picks after you turn your own in. (Copying mine could probably only help you lose anyway.)
