“Double-Double Puts the Competition Out of Business!” (Wk 10)

Week 9 MVP Award Winner –
Double-Double (26 Points)

Double-Double had another strong week as he won the Week 9 MVP Award by scoring 26 Points.  Double-Double won his second MVP award in the last three weeks, further solidified his #2 position, and is now within legitimate striking distance of 1st Place.  Double-Double has whittled Stinkerbell’s lead down to a mere 7 Points as we arrive at the halfway point in the season.  Double-Double’s success last week came by correctly picking the Double Stakes of Miami-Pit, getting both Point Spread Games correct with Carolina and KC, and getting both Games of the Week correct with LA Chargers and NO.  And he did this despite starting the week with the terrible decision to bail on the Autopicker and instead go with Oak over SF, which did not even come close to panning out.  The battle for the top spot in the club this week should be absolutely fierce with Double-Double currently on fire and Stinkerbell plateauing a bit these past few weeks.  The Week 9 MVP Award Runner-Up was Kip Possible, who scored 24 Points and continues to impress by picking strongly all season long.  In looking at the Top Five, #1 player Stinkerbell scored 18 Points and has now logged an astounding 8 Weeks at #1, quite an impressive feat for the club’s only rookie player this season.  But how will she deal with the pressure of knowing that she is being chased down by Double-Double and the rest of the Top Five?  It’s time for her to step up and deliver some brilliant picks this week if she wants to stay at the top.  Tied for 3rd Place are Captain Insano and The Cat.  Captain Insano had a strong week with 22 Points and made some really good picks, including getting the Triple Crown of Chi-Min-Atl.  Only 3 other club members got the Triple Crown last week: Hoosier Daddy, Badwater Nessie, and Nighthawk.  Captain Insano’s costly mistake last week was picking Den with TJ, but other than that he did really well.  The Cat also made the mistake of picking Den with TJ, but he still managed to score 21 Points.  Both of these great players are now only 14 Points out of 1st Place.  Tied for 5th Place are Rad Dad and new member of the Top Five The Rickster.  Rad Dad really struggled last week, only scoring 15 Points.  He needs to step it up if he doesn’t want to fall out of the Top Five.  The Rickster fared much better, scoring 23 Points to finally break through into the upper echelon that most club members just hope to be part of in the Top Five.  Rad Dad and The Rickster are both currently 19 Points out of 1st Place.  Surely, they are happy with how the first half of the season has turned out for them.  For everyone else, keep in mind that only half the season has gone by.  If you are struggling don’t give up and make extremely risky picks just to try to get ahead or catch up.  Consistency is the key as it is a long season of 17 weeks and we are only at Week 10.  During the last couple of weeks, I’ve seen a couple of players make high-risk picks that have not panned out.  This week, it cost someone the MVP Award when they made three last-second switches that were a total disaster.  Last week, it cost someone’s team a victory in the Pro Bowl Weekly competition when they made one of the riskiest picks I have ever seen in a last-second switch.  Don’t give up, everyone.  I’m struggling real bad myself but I’m going to keep trying my best.

In Head to Head Weekly, we only have two weeks left in the regular season before the Super Bowl Tournament begins with the First Round of competition.  Division One is coming down to a battle between three players: Rad Dad, Fearless Tuna, and Hoosier Daddy.  Division Two finds Double-Double, Stinkerbell, and Bob Swerski all still with a shot to claim the division title.  Division Three has The Rickster and freespirit battling it out at the top.  And Division Four has  a four-way battle between Captain Insano, Nighthawk, The Cat, and Kip Possible.  Let’s see who can step up and win their matches this week before we have our final matches of Head to Head Weekly next week to decide the final standings and seeds in the Super Bowl Tournament.  Over in Pro Bowl Weekly, Wild Animals continue to absolutely dominate as they are now 7-1.  Wild Animals have three teammates who are all in the Top Five, so you can see why they are doing so well.  On the flip side, The Black Pearl has lost 7 straight matches and let’s see if they can right the ship this week.

“The Cat Preys on the Club Again!” (Wk 9)

Week 8 MVP Award Winner –
The Cat (30 Points)

The Cat has stunned the club by winning his third MVP Award of the season.  With only 8 weeks played so far, The Cat owns 3 of the MVP Awards, which is an incredible feat.  It looks like The Cat has become a serious threat to tying or breaking Slick Chick’s 2010 all-time record of winning 5 MVP Awards in a season.  MVP Awards are so difficult to win because you have to have a higher score than 17 other club members for the week.  The Cat won the Week 8 MVP Award by scoring 30 Points.  He was able to reach this Point total in part by getting both Games of the Week correct with Carolina and Arizona.  He also picked New Orleans for the Sunday night game.  The Cat became MVP in spite of making a very bad pick of Oakland with Triple Jeopardy.  Had he not made that pick, he would have ended with 32 Points and be in 2nd Place instead of 4th Place.  Because he won 2 MVP Awards this month, The Cat has been named the October Player of the Month.  The Week 8 MVP Award Runner-Up goes to The Rickster, who scored 29 Points and continues to make great picks week after week.  The Rickster has been dominant as of late and now finds himself a mere 6 Points out of entering the Top Five.  In fact, The Rickster is now just 9 Points out of 2nd Place.  In looking at the Top Five, #1 player Stinkerbell continues to sit on her perch at the top.  Although she holds a double digit lead, her position at the top is starting to become a bit more precarious.  There are currently four players all within 15-18 Points of catching up to her.  Stinkerbell has now logged 7 Weeks at #1 and I think some veteran club members are starting to feel frustrated at seeing a rookie player be so dominant for half a season.  But she’s picked well and earned it, so she deserves respect for her accomplishments thus far.  #2 player Double-Double matched Stinkerbell’s 22 Point score last week and barely held onto his spot.  #3 player Rad Dad continues to pick conservatively and scored 23 Points.  The next eight players in the standings all had stronger weeks than the top three players, which goes to show that picking conservatively may not always pay off in holding onto the top spots.  The Cat sits at #4 and Captain Insano is #5.  Captain Insano wisely avoided selecting TJ as he had picked Oakland in the lone Regular Game.

In Head to Head Weekly, we had a couple of interesting showdowns.  The matches between Stinkerbell vs. Fearless Tuna and Captain Jack Sparrow vs. The Cat both came down to the Sunday night game.  When New Orleans prevailed, Fearless Tuna and The Cat came out winners.  An interesting aspect to the match between Sparrow and Cat was that the winner of that match was also going to be our MVP for the week.  And Captain Jack Sparrow really could have used the win in Head to Head, as he remains our only winless player at 0-6-1 with three games left.  That’s a really surprising record in view of the fact that Captain Jack Sparrow was our 2007 Super Bowl Head to Head Champion.  He is definitely due for a win sometime soon, perhaps even this week (with apologies to crosstown rival Rex Kwan Do).  Our division leaders are currently Rad Dad (4-1-2), Stinkerbell (4-2-1), freespirit and The Rickster (both 5-2), and Captain Insano and Nighthawk (both 5-2).  Over in Pro Bowl Team Weekly, Wild Animals survived a scare but managed to beat bottom feeders The Mega Powers by a score of 81-78.  The Black Pearl once again lost a very close match as has been the ship’s pattern, this time being sunk by McTriple Play 68-65.  And thanks to a last second, huge gamble switch to the Bills by one member of Transformers, Daddy & His Boys picked up a victory over them by a single Point 68-67.

“Double-Double Grills Up the Competition!” (Wk 8)

Week 7 MVP Award Winner –
Double-Double (33 Points)

Double-Double delivered his picks Animal Style this week as he grilled up the competition by scoring 33 Points, which is the highest score of the year so far.  Back in Week 2, Double-Double was way down in 10th Place.  But he has slowly been climbing the charts and has now moved into 2nd Place after winning the Week 7 MVP Award.  Double-Double, as most of you know, makes his picks from Omaha, Nebraska as he cheers on Big Red in college and the SF 49ers in the NFL.  Both teams have the same record this season at 1-6.  But Double-Double is determined not to follow in their path, as can be seen in the strong picks he made last week.  Double-Double’s strong picks included picking Detroit with TJ, getting the Double Stakes of Min-NE, and getting both Games of the Week correct with NO and Wash.  He has now become a serious challenger to Stinkerbell’s #1 spot.  Being a former Club Champion in 2005, he knows what it takes to get to the top and stay there.  Current #1 player Stinkerbell finally rebounded with a strong week herself, scoring 25 Points at a time when she needed it the most.  Her current lead in 1st Place now stands at 15 Points.  #3 player Rad Dad scored 26 Points, which he also badly needed to stay in the Top Five.  #4 player Captain Insano struggled a bit with 19 Points.  He might need to start picking Triple Jeopardy to help boost his Points total (if he can pick it right).  #5 player The Cat had 22 Points, which was just enough to keep himself in the Top Five for at least one more week.  Other than Double-Double’s super-strong week, the other big story in the club this week was the reemergence of Hoosier Daddy as a force to be reckoned with.  Hoosier Daddy scored 27 Points to claim the Week 7 MVP Award Runner-Up as he took over 6th Place.  Hoosier Daddy is now just a mere 4 Points from entering the Top Five for the first time this season.  You may recall that back in Week 1, Hoosier Daddy debuted in 18th Place.  Imagine what an amazing story it would be if Hoosier Daddy keeps making great picks and climbs all the way from Last Place to First Place to win the club title.

In Head to Head Weekly last week, Rad Dad completely took over Division One with a 4-1-1 record.  To do this, Rad Dad def. Captain Insano 26-19, which was a friendly battle between members of the Top Five.  It’s no surprise to see Stinkerbell leading Division Two with a 4-1-1 record.  Just behind her is Double-Double, who now has a record of 3-1-2.  Double-Double has now won 3 straight matches after beginning the season a dismal 0-1-2.  In what seems like an unfair match-up (for Hoosier’s sake), Double-Double def. Hoosier Daddy 33-27 last week as the MVP defeated the MVP Runner-Up.  Hoosier Daddy would have defeated any other player in the club had he been matched up against someone else.  Division Three has a two-way tie for 1st Place between The Rickster and freespirit, both with strong records of 4-2.  The Rickster has been really good at Head to Head play this season.  Last week, The Rickster def. Captain Jack Sparrow 26-19.  In Division Four, Captain Insano and Nighthawk both are on top with 4-2 records.  In a narrow victory, Nighthawk def. MJD Hogg 13-12.  As Nighthawk has struggled a bit in the Points Standings this season, he is surely glad to be dominating in Head to Head competition.  Over in Pro Bowl Team Weekly, Wild Animals sent a strong message to the rest of the club that they are the #1 team and top contenders for the Pro Bowl championship.  Wild Animals dominated Transformers and defeated them for the second time this season, this time by a score of 81-50.  That’s by far the highest team score of the season so far.  And it is also the second time that Transformers have taken a loss, with both losses coming at the paws of Wild Animals.  Wild Animals are two-time Pro Bowl Team Champs, having won the titles in 2011 and 2005.  Wild Animals also hold two team records in the Hall of Fame.  The records are Highest Team Score in a Week with 112 combined Points and Longest Undefeated Team Streak with 12 straight games undefeated.  This week, Wild Animals should have an easy match against The Mega Powers.  Or will this be a game on upset alert?
